A New Wave of Women

As a new wave of women step into the stages of the menopause a new approach is striking a chord, ‘we’re not going to do the menopause with embarrassment or depression’. It’s been a taboo subject for too long causing women to feel isolated and sad. Instead of dreading the menopause stages some women are beginning to accept the changes as a powerful transition. The menopause could be viewed as new era of your life, time for reflection but a time to charter a new course, setting a compass towards health, acceptance and a renewed purpose.

This summer books by American women look at midlife as a time to start over, take risks and view themselves in the world as anything but invisible. Melinda Gates, 54, hit best-seller lists this spring with her debut book ‘The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World’. Michelle Obama, at 55, has been filling arenas for six months on her speaking tour for her blockbuster memoir, ‘Becoming’. And the much anticipated, ‘Sex and the City’ author Candace Bushnell, 60, returns in August with the autobiographical novel, ‘Is There Still Sex in the City?’ There are endless examples of women finding a new career or purpose in their 50’s, 60’s or even 70’s, so why not you?

Of course, hormones will change causing many symptoms which we’re all very aware of, such as hot flushes, night sweats, gaining of weight but accepting these consequences rather trying to find drugs to diminish them is key to achieving a positive transition. Ploughing your energy into the ‘acceptance compass’ allows you to be happy with this stage of your life.

Perhaps an ideal example of acceptance of age as well as nature’s journey is Brigette Bardot, former actress and herald one of the most beautiful women in the world during the 1960’s. Closing the door behind her acting career, she found a new purpose in being an animal right activist, loved and admired all over the world for her relentless pursuit for animal rights. A beautiful woman leading the change in her life, her way with no drugs or pills, set your compass and start your journey, the natural way.
